Climate Change - what is your reason?
A few weeks ago I didn’t care at all - climate was the fight of all those who thought the world was on its last journey. Now? I care, at least a little more than before. As with my views on a lot of other things, my view on climate has also changed. I suddenly get the point, or maybe it’s better to call it the reason, why I should care.
Back then I thought all “those” were fighting for the same goal, the same reason. I thought the goal was to “save the world”, and I didn’t quite believe in that, hence I didn’t care I guess. Saving the world (and the human race) is a wave I don’t ride that often. I don’t get why some people cannot accept nature as it is, and forget all about increasing lifetime, forget all about the next ice age, accept other humans as they are, accept bodies as they were meant to be etc. But, then again, it’s probably a part of nature; the fact that we can’t live with it as it is. So, at the end of they day, it’s all as it was meant to be, an endless ironic play. I’m getting off topic here.
The point is, I’ve found a reason why I should “join” the fight, and help the climate. Not because I want to save the world, not because I want to join “all the others”. I’m fighting because I don’t see one single reason to waste. That being water, energy, resources…if it saves the world or not? Well, I still don’t care, I guess I’m just saving a bit for someone else out there? Hence I feel good about it? I think that’s what it’s about…
One of those who inspired me to find a reason, is Bill Gates. In this talk, he points out his reason for caring about climate, and furthermore gives an idea of where we’re heading, and what we can do about it. Do you have a reason? Or are you still one of those who thinks that all “we” want is to save the (almighty) world? Take 30 mins out of your life, and give it a thought - happy watching
FOR THE GEEKS (don’t feel ashamed, you’re not the only one): A while after I saw and was inspired by @billgates‘ talk, I stumbled upon this 15 min clip at 60 Minutes’ website. The clip is about this new revolutionizing use of fuel cells, which a Silicon Valley company (Bloomenergy) have discovered. It sounds very promising, and having the TED talk above in mind, it could look like a nice try, in taking the first steps towards efficient use of resources.
